Charl Peenze – Principal Geologist at BOYD – spent three days at the 2025 Noosa Mining Investor Conference in Noosa Heads. Conference convenor Phil Dickinson set the scene with energising remarks that framed Noosa as the place where bold exploration stories meet smart capital.
Stand-out panels were led by Andrea Marsland-Smith (Alligator Energy) on unlocking Australia’s next ISR-uranium producer, Ron Heeks (Larvotto Resources Limited) on reviving the Hillgrove antimony-gold district for critical minerals supply and Bevan Jones (True North Copper) on fast-tracking new copper hubs in the Mt Isa belt. The panel showed how innovative geology, technology and partnerships are shortening the road from discovery to production.
Thanks to Phil, the organising team, speakers and sponsors for a program that keeps Queensland – and Australia – firmly on the mining industry map.
Queensland Resources Council's Resources Media Club Lunch 2025

Jack Steenekamp, Managing Director of John T. Boyd Company (Australia) Pty Ltd, attended the Queensland Resources Council’s (QRC) Resources Media Club lunch on 15 July 2025 at Customs House, with the Queensland State Treasurer, the Hon David Janetzki MP, as the keynote speaker. The event was well-attended with a wide-spread contingent of mining and supporting services representatives, allowing good networking opportunities over a sit-down lunch.
The Treasurer again emphasised the State Government’s strong support for the mining industry, and quoted various initiatives driven and supported by the Government in achieving continuing growth and development in the industry. This was received very well by the audience, but unexpectedly the question came up on the Queensland coal royalties and the impact this has had, and will continue to have, on the coal industry. The Treasurer however responded emphatically that the coal royalties will not change in the near future, despite the current climate and low coal prices within the industry. Disappointingly, the strong support of the State Government for the mining industry as a whole, remained questionably lacking for the coal industry, during a period of extreme pressure on mining companies and related services, during a time of persisting rock-bottom coal prices.
Nevertheless, we thank the QRC’s Resources Media Club for a well-organised event, and an appetising lunch together with other mining industry representatives, sharing the same goal in continuing to develop the industry as a prosperity driver for the State of Queensland and its people.
Global Mining Guidelines Group Forum 2025

Jamie Hanson (BOYD Principal Mining Engineer) attended the Global Mining Guidelines Group – GMG Forum last week, held at the The University of Queensland. The forum brought together industry leaders, researchers and innovators who are shaping the future of mining through practical and collaborative solutions.
From decarbonisation and autonomous systems, to data interoperability and workforce transformation, the sessions provided a fantastic platform to exchange ideas and drive progress across the mining value chain. From speakers like Penny Stewart from PETRA who shared insights on why terms like trustworthy AI may be misleading in industrial contexts and that accountability and standards matter more, and Peter Knights (UQ) who talked about/developed a roadmap to achieving zero entry mining and systems engineering principles.
A huge thank you to the GMG and UQ for hosting such a forward-thinking and impactful event!
